My Approach to Teaching the Alexander Technique
Trevor Allan Davies
Because the Technique requires commitment on the part
of both teacher and pupil, it's best to have a lesson or two initially to
be certain that you wish to invest your time, attention, and money in this
process.
<>
In addressing the habits of a lifetime, it's very beneficial to have
more frequent lessons at the beginning to counterbalance the familiar
and habitual which constitutes all of the rest of your time. This
will probably mean having more than one lesson per week for a few weeks
if possible. Thereafter the lessons may cease, or conform to the
pupil's needs and
interests. >
The objective is to make the teacher unnecessary as soon as possible.
The cost of Alexander lessons is small considering the benefits possible
and compared to the alternative - the long-term costs of therapeutic treatment.
Each lesson lasts for 30 to 40 minutes. The pupil needn't bring
any special equipment, clothing, or books and notebooks. Women should
wear slacks if possible.
<>Pupils remain fully clothed at all times in the course of lessons, including
the initial consultation. This is not a medical procedure!
Payment is due for lessons missed without 24 hours prior notice of cancellation.
Lessons missed by the teacher will be made up at the earliest opportunity.
Any refund of fees will be made at the teacher's discretion. >
